Philipsburg offers a variety of activities for tourists and locals alike. They provide information for walking tours that details the history of Philipsburg's Front Street and Residential Areas. Philipsburg celebrates its proud history at the Annual Philipsburg Heritage Days, a weeklong festival that takes place after the 4th of July. Heritage Days includes a car show, watermelon-eating contest, and a grand parade. Thousands of people visit Philipsburg during this event.
James and Henry Philips founded Philipsburg, Pennsylvania in 1791. Some reports say that the land was bought at an auction on the streets of Philadelphia at two cents an acre. Today the town boasts a wide variety of historic buildings, representative a variety of architectural styles, including the Rowland Mansion House, Union Church, and the Carlisle-Loraine house.
Philipsburg is also home to the first screw mill in the United States, which was built by Hardman Philips, brother of James and Henry, in 1821. The screw mill operated until 1836, and was destroyed during a fire in 1859.
